Visual Arts: Becoming Key to Future  Careers This article aims to assist school principals, teachers, parents, learners, and anyone involved in educational development or curricular decision-making in understanding why it is increasingly important to support and encourage learners to engage in arts education. Having been involved in arts education for over two decades, I have had the privilege of guiding and mentoring many learners, particularly those at a crossroads in their career decision-making. Many of these students contemplate entering the creative industry, and I have been there to support them through this important process. Working primarily with FET phase learners—who are at the stage where they must make crucial decisions about their future careers—can be overwhelming. At 15 or 16 years of age, the weight of choosing the right subjects for a future career can feel daunting. To better assist my students and their parents, I recently conducted research into the future car...

He supplies in All my needs...Don't let go of your Dreams!

T his morning I want to share how thankful I am, we should never take for granted the good that comes our way and always appreciate and see the provision, even in small things.       I run a Guesthouse called Hidden Gem Art Guesthouse in Germiston where we currently stay... It came my way in 2019 (before Covid hit us) and it became my sanctuary, workplace and space to serve people and guests ever since. We receive guests and recurring guests from all over from places like Durban, the Midlands, Northern Cape (Katu), as well as people from Italy, Belgium and Dubai.     I also run an art school Bud and Blossom 'Creatives' from here, it is my office and as a visual artists   my studio. Then I was even adopted by a loving cat named ' Jossie '. The bird life is absolutely incredible and there is a huge  'Wilde Druif'  tree also known as a ' Belambra ' growing in the garden right in front of the guesthouse creating a tranquil...

Where expressions take flight!

Bud & Blossom  'Creatives'   where expressions take flight!  Last year I started or rather took over an art school I was involved in for many years; and am now the owner of the creative hub I named Bud and Blossom ' Creatives' …  I actually wanted to disappear from this kind of responsibility I took on myself for 20+ years? Pioneering, building, running a school  in order to give attention to my art career that I have been neglecting forever and a day!  But obviously life is not always SO easy? As soon as we step away from challenges and follow an easy or comfortable route, you stop growing. If the journey you are destined to travel is always predictable and the same old same old, you never get to climb high mountains and be the spectator of a breathtaking view.  So I took up the challenge again now as the owner and whatever it is you call a person who sees the big picture and works his butt off in order to make the dream a re...

Mysterious Covid-19

Locked-Down because of " mysterious " Covid-19! From one day to the next South Africans are faced with being locked down for 21 days because of an unknown and mysterious virus called Corona/Covid-19. And after 21 days our lock-down is extended for another 2 weeks, or until we hear what the verdict will be soon. The first week I think we all came to terms with this situation we were placed in. Being gripped by uncertainty, shock of being faced by a sudden law-enforced lock-down. Preparing for a possible lack of produce and that shops might be closed soon. Now, in week two of lock-down most of the food shelves in grocery stores are still well stocked accept for sanitizers of course as well as cake flower and yeast for some reason, even though all the bakeries are still baking and selling bread. Just before lock-down I went to stock up a bit myself and witnessed how people overstocked their trollies completely. Why do I describe the Covid-19 epidemic as  'mysterio...

The One Thing Technology Cannot Replace…  is creativity    There is a treasure so rare God placed inside of every human being. It is a defining element of Himself as our Creator, that is creativity. We are created in His image, so it is unmistakable evident on the inside of every person.   The advancement of technology has occurred at the speed of light which will never stop and will become more advanced with every invention, app, game or the newest smartphone on the market. Don’t get me wrong, we all enjoy the convenience of being able to set our phone while driving and speaking into Siri to direct our route to avoid traffic. Our lives have become extremely convenient in many ways. Being a teacher in the creative arts and specializing in Visual Arts, the advancement of technology has become very beneficial to encouraging certain career choices to my learners. The field they will enter to become experts will be in the “Creative Industry”. Applying th...

Why a career in the Creative Industry is a good choice for your artistic teenager!

The more I am involved in the training of Visual Arts as an extra school subject the more I discover the already existing as well as still developing opportunities in the visual creative industry. After I did research for career opportunities for past and current learners who are passionate about the arts and want to pursue a career in it I discovered many exciting avenues. Some avenues we all are familiar with by now; E.g. Graphic, Industrial or Fashion design…. Are what we are most familiar with.  But I have good news… there are so many more artistic, innovative and exciting directions a creative school leaver can pursue. The good intentional advice of a parent who rather guides his artistic child into a more sensible direction to avoid having to be a long term financial back-up for him is definitely something of the past. There are sensible and professional creative directions to choose from which will on the contrary develop, enhance and complete...
